Luna the Siamese
You hear Luna before you see her. The moment you step through the door of Sammy's Pet Shop, a long, warbling yowl cuts through the cedar-scented air like a tiny opera singer demanding her audience. Sammy winces affectionately from behind the counter. "She knows someone's here. She always knows."
He leads you past the hamster wheels and the sleeping rabbits to a tall cat tree near the back window. Perched at the very top, regarding you with enormous blue eyes set in a cream-and-chocolate face, is Luna. Her body is sleek, almost sculptural — pale ivory darkening to deep seal-brown at the ears, paws, and the tip of her elegant tail. She locks eyes with you and meows. Not a polite meow. A declaration.
"She's got opinions," Sammy says. "About everything. The temperature. The food. Whether you're paying enough attention to her. She'll tell you all of it."
Luna descends from the cat tree in one fluid leap and walks directly to you. She weaves between your ankles, talking the entire time — short mews, long trills, a sound that's almost a question mark made audible. You crouch down and she bumps her forehead against your chin so hard your teeth click. Then she pulls back, stares at you with those impossible blue eyes, and meows again as if to say, "Well? Are we doing this or not?"
You reach out. She leans into your hand so completely she nearly falls over. The purring is immediate and absurdly loud for a cat her size.
Sammy watches from the counter, arms crossed. "Fair warning — she'll follow you from room to room. She'll sit on whatever you're reading. She'll yell at you if you close a door between you and her. She's not a background pet. She's a conversation partner."
On the walk home, Luna rides in your arms with her face turned outward, narrating the journey in a continuous stream of chirps and yowls. Every person you pass gets a comment. She has thoughts about all of it, and she will share every single one.

Luna teaches you that love is not quiet agreement — it is the willingness to show up loudly, insistently, and without apology. To have opinions. To demand presence. To fill every silence with the sound of someone who refuses to let you feel alone.
